Prince Philip has been married to Queen Elizabeth II for 74 years. In 2017, he withdrew from public life and has rarely appeared in the media since then.
The Prince has been the longest-serving and longest-lived companion of the royal family. He will celebrate his 100th birthday in June.
Three weeks ago, he was taken to hospital, where he underwent heart surgery. He died at Windsor Castle at the age of 99.

Prince Philip came from the Danish royal family of Schleswig-Holstein, Sonderberg Glücksburg. At the age of 18 he joined the Navy. During World War II, he served in the Pacific and Mediterranean seas.
