The risk of severe weather is higher near the Alps

Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bad Tölz and Oberstdorf as well as rural areas should be prepared for severe storms: According to DWD, a Warning Level 4 applies. Here experts warn of the possibility of heavy rain or continuous rain. Severe thunderstorms are expected.

Storms are also likely to pass over Bavaria from Rosenheim to Cham, and a warning is in place for large parts of eastern and southern Bavaria, including Munich, Augsburg, Ingolstadt and Regensburg. Heavy rains and thunderstorms can also bring large amounts of rain to the northeast.

Flood risk, especially in the south

In addition, DWD indicates the flood risk of basements and streets as well as local flooding of smaller streams and rivers.

Individual landslides can also occur. The Flood News Service (HND) has a flood warning for large parts of southern Bavaria issued.

Call to avoid spending time outdoors

“These amounts could swell the Danube and rivers south and cause regional flooding,” explained Lars Kirchubel, a meteorologist at DWD. The German Weather Service advocates keeping windows and doors closed and avoiding spending time outdoors.
