Nike is planning to lay off workers who haven’t been vaccinated against COVID-19, according to The Oregon Journal. Cooperation with the persons working in the management of the clothing manufacturer, which is one of the largest employers in Portland, USA, will be terminated.

The Oregon Journal reported that Nike sent unvaccinated workers a notice of termination on Saturday, January 15, 2022. This applies to those who have not provided certification confirming medical or religious contraindications that exempt them from taking the vaccine.

The layoff decision is a result of company policy, which told employees in October 2021 that they would return to their offices in January 2022, which required a vaccination. However, this return will be delayed until February 2022 due to the increased occurrence of the omicron variant.

Nike is another US employer that requires its employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19. However, the clothing brand does it on the scale of one city – Portland, on the other Citigroup Bank recently announced that it will be laying off workers across the country for the same reason.
