BRIDE-TO-BE Perrie Edwards will be adding extra sparkle to Little Mix’s performance when they take to the stage in South Shields this Sunday as part of SoundWaves 2013.
It’s the first time that Perrie and fellow band member Jade Thirlwall, both from South Shields, have performed on home turf since winning the X Factor in 2011.
And the much anticipated performance, in the town’s Bents Park on Sunday August 25, will have extra sparkle following the announcement of Perrie’s engagement to One Direction’s Zayn Malik.
Pictures of Perrie wearing a ring on her engagement finger at the world premiere of One Direction’s new movie This Is Us in London on Tuesday, sent Twitter and One Direction fans into a frenzy as speculation started mounting as to whether the ring meant that Zayn had popped the question.
The engagement has also prompted rumours that Zayn may be tempted to take a trip to Perrie’s hometown to see Little Mix’s performance this weekend and also visit the future in-laws!
Speaking before news of the engagement broke, Perrie said: “It’ll be incredible to be back up north. Everyone will be up for partying so it’s going to be a good one.”
Little Mix, who have already achieved five top 20 UK hits and recently stormed the US Billboard Charts with their debut album DNA, will be co-headlining Sound Waves 2013 alongside boyband McFly, whose hits include Five Colours in Her Hair, All About You, Star Girl and Shine a Light.
The Bank Holiday gig, organised by South Tyneside Council, will also feature a performance by fellow South Shields resident and X Factor winner Joe McElderry, as well as appearances by Britain’s Got Talent finalists Luminites and up-and-coming boyband, The Vamps.
