Walerij Załużny was born in 1973 in Nowogród Wołyński. He graduated from the Odessa Institute of Land Forces and the National Defense University in Kiev, after which he went to all levels of military service. Zayouni holds a master’s degree in international relations. One of his first decisions as Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was to allow soldiers to return fire on enemy fire without obtaining the approval of the Supreme Command. His primary goal in the assumed post in July 2021 is to “reform the Ukrainian military in line with NATO standards”.

Mogysyuk was born in 1979 in Chernivtsi, graduated from the air department of the Odessa Institute of Ground Forces and the Kiev National Defense University. From July 28, 2021, he is the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
