Basketball player Bradley Beal is bound by health safety protocols and will not play for the US national team at the Tokyo Olympics, the federation said. The name of his deputy in the US national team will be announced soon.
The Washington Wizards star has already appeared in three friendlies for the US team in Las Vegas, but has been sent into quarantine, possibly as a result of a positive coronavirus test. Out of caution, another member of the team, Jeramy Grant, has remained in isolation.
Bale, 28, was the league’s second-highest scorer behind Stephen Curry, averaging 31.3 points at the end of the NBA season.
Americans prepare to compete in the Olympics without Chris Middleton, Guru Holiday of the Milwaukee Bucks and Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns in the final. The NBA champion will be named no later than July 20 or two days later.
The Olympic Games start in Tokyo on July 23.
