Bristol up-and-comers The Ramona Flowers are to play Independent as part of their UK tour. The electro-tinged rock outfit will call in at the Sunderland venue on Friday October 18th; the last date of their country-wide run.
Likened by press to Kid A-era Radiohead, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and early U2, The Ramona Flowers seamlessly blend electronics with stadium rock elements and glitchy beats to create dazzling cinematic soundscapes. Dubbed as one to watch be NME, the band have also been featured in The Sun, gained Artrocker’s coveted Single of the Week accolade, and recently performed at Rock Ness, Wilderness Festival and Liverpool Sound City.
The band recently released single ‘Brighter’, the third cut to be lifted from their forthcoming debut album, and boasted remixes from electro-indie heavyweights Everything Everything and Mt. Wolf. Their Wearside date follows their support slots with the likes of Bastille, MS MR and Lamb earlier this year.
Independent Live continues to go from strength to strength, pulling in the best and brightest in international alternative music across the North East. Not content with promoting fantastic shows in the region’s best venues, Independent continues to act as the epicenter of live music in Sunderland from its new home, following its recent move to the previous Van Mildert store. Directly across the road from its former home on Holmeside, the new Independent has had tens of thousands of pounds ploughed into its renovation. Over the years, Independent has hosted huge acts such as The Klaxons, Alt-J and Spector, and now Sunderland’s only dedicated entertainment venue is back doing what it does best; attracting top names from the international live circuit.
