Greenwood Police Chief Jim Eason said a man armed with a rifle opened fire in the food court at Greenwood Park Mall. The attacker was killed by an armed civilian.

Eason said the police confiscated a suspicious backpack that was in a bathroom near the dining hall

The officers went to the mall around 6 p.m. (midnight Poland time) in response to a report of gunfire.

Authorities are searching the rest of the building for more victims, but they believe the shooting was limited to the mall’s food court.

“We are horrified by another incident of this nature in our country,” said Indianapolis Police Deputy Chief Chris Bailey.
