Royal Mail suspends a service ensuring fast delivery of parcels just in time for Christmas amid chaos at screening offices and the disruption of Covid-19.

Delivery of letters and parcels to Europe has also been suspended temporarily as concerns mount over the UK’s most contagious strain of virus.

“For guaranteed special delivery by 9 AM and guaranteed special delivery by 1 PM for items posted on Wednesday 23 December, we hold our Delivery Guarantee on hold.” The company added, “We can assure you that we will endeavor to deliver all items as quickly as possible.”

The Deutsche Post said the same disruption in shipping and flights meant it would temporarily suspend parcel delivery services from the continent to the UK.

“Unfortunately, we have been compelled to impose a complete moratorium on deliveries of private and commercial parcels and letters carrying goods to Great Britain and Ireland until further notice,” she said.
