Seagate was the first third-party manufacturer to confirm its collaboration with Sony to jointly prepare additional drives for the PS5. The company introduced the FireCuda 530 series, which has been tested and works with the PlayStation 5.

Before the premiere of the new generation, Sony confirmed that the PlayStation 5 will be able to install an additional disc. The slot remains closed, but updating the console’s firmware will allow you to take advantage of a second SSD.

It’s no secret that PS5 users will only have to use the fastest hardware, because the console is equipped with a very fast solid-state drive ready to order – the second should meet the expected standards. At the time of the announcement of the new FireCuda 530 drivers, many users expected that the new model might be compatible with the Sony console.

Meanwhile, Finder’s editorial team has received a positive message – Seagate has worked with Sony to make the FireCuda 530 series work with the PlayStation 5 as expected.

“We did some testing with Sony on the PlayStation 5 and today we can confirm that the FireCuda 530 with heatsink meets all the requirements of the PS5. In the PS5 design, the SSD card slot is very narrow, so there is not much space for installing an SSD. However, in the FireCuda 530 – even with the heat sink on top – the slim design allows it to fit in. Of course, the heatsink FireCuda 530 is thinner, so both will fit on the PS5,” said regional director at Seagate Technology, ANZ, Jeff Park.

The FireCuda 530 is twice as fast as the FireCuda 520 Gen 3, so users can expect 7300MB/s sequential read and 6900MB/s sequential write. The parameters are much larger than the minimum requirements for PlayStation 5.
