North East band Little Comets will headline the one-day Bernicia Festival in South Shields.
The event will take place on Sunday August 4th at The Customs House in the town and will feature a host of rising talent from the region.
The free event will also feature solo artist Lulu James from South Shields who will soon join Emeli Sande as support on her European tour.
Boy Jumps Ship will be bringing a rockier edge to proceedings, having been dubbed by Kerrang Magazine as displaying “enigmatic sound bites nestled between soaring refrains that wouldn’t disgrace Biffy Clyro.”
Also performing are Minotaurs, The Union Choir, Gallery Circus, Maps Are Fiction, Crooked Hands and Lionhall.
As well as the main stage, you’ll also be able to catch acts in the Acoustic Corner including Athletes in Paris, The Railway Club, singer songwriter Faith Elliott, Suntrapp and South Shields’ own Little Red.
On top of all that, event organisers still have one slot left to fill and are looking for local talent to fit the bill.
Festival organiser Emma Howe: “Bernicia Festival is all about shining a spotlight on homegrown talent, which is why this year we’ll be staging the first ever Bernicia Rising. This sister event to South Shield’s Bernicia Festival is a showcase event for young local talent, which allows acts to bag a spot at the festival itself.”
Original artists and bands from South Shields, aged between 15-19, are invited to upload a track to Bernicia Rising’s SoundCloud group. All tracks will be poured over by a panel of local musicians and music buffs, and the carefully selected finalists will then be given the opportunity to perform at Bernicia Rising, held at South Shields’ Amphitheatre on June 8th alongside headliners and Bernicia act Athletes in Paris. After the event, one act will be chosen to open Bernicia‘s main stage. The winning act will also be given 10 tickets to Bernicia Festival.
One track to be uploaded per artist.
All acts must be available to play on both Saturday June 8th and Sunday August 4th.
All acts must have AT LEAST three original tracks. No covers will be permitted.
All acts must be from the South Shields area, and members must be between 15-19 years old.
Window for entering is open until May 20th.
Finalists will be notified by May 28th.
Each finalist will be given two tickets to Bernicia Festival.
Winning act will given 10 tickets to Bernicia Festival.
