Chart-topping girl band Little Mix is heading to South Shields to perform at the town’s Soundwaves festival.
X Factor winners Little Mix, whose band members Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall are from South Shields, will be performing in the town’s Bents Park on Sunday, August 25.
Having already achieved five top 20 UK hits, the band, which also includes Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, are currently riding high in the US Billboard Charts with their debut album DNA.
They’ll be heading to the North East to perform tracks such as Wings, Change Your Life and How Ya Doin? at Soundwaves 2013.
The Bank Holiday open air gig, which is being headlined by Little Mix and chart-topping boyband McFly, will also feature a performance by fellow South Shields resident and X Factor winner Joe McElderry and Britain’s Got Talent finalists Luminites.
It will be the first time that Little Mixers Jade and Perrie have performed in front of a hometown crowd since winning the X Factor in 2011 and the event organisers South Tyneside Council fully expect it to be a sell-out.
Cllr Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, said: “Little Mix are one of the biggest bands on the planet at the moment and we’re absolutely thrilled to be bringing Jade and Perrie home to South Shields on the wave of this international success.
“Soundwaves 2013 was already set to be a huge event but with Little Mix now being added to the bill alongside Joe, Luminites and co-headliners McFly it’s even more unmissable.”
