An IKEA family showroom in Aalborg, northern Denmark, has been transformed into a huge bedroom. Six customers and about twenty employees were trapped by a snowstorm and forced to spend the night in the store.

When the furniture store in Aalborg closed on Wednesday night, up to 30 centimeters of snow fell.

“We slept on display furniture and in the living room on the first floor, where we have beds, mattresses and pull-out couches,” store manager Peter Elmoz told Extra Bladet. He added that people could “choose the exact bed they’ve always wanted to try”.

Elmose said they spent the evening watching TV and eating. He added that the overnight stay at the store ended “in a very good way. It was a very good and enjoyable night.”

Danish public television DR reported that people who work in a toy store next to IKEA also spent the night in a department store.

It’s so much better than sleeping in your car. “It was nice and warm, and we’re glad they let us in,” said Michelle Barrett, a toy store employee, on TV.

– We just laughed about this situation. We probably won’t be testing it anymore, Barrett added.
