The BIG Walk takes place at Herrington Country Park on Sunday October 1 and anyone wanting to take part can go along and register on the day.
There are three different circular routes to choose from, all starting and finishing in the Country Park, and the walks will visit some of Sunderland’s most attractive locations at Penshaw and the river Wear valley.
This year’s three-mile BIG Walk route involves an optional scavenger hunt trail around the park, ideal for beginners, families or those with mobility issues.
The entry fee for the BIG Walk is £10 which includes an Active Sunderland technical t-shirt, medal and goody bag. Entry registration will be open from 8.45am on Sunday.
To date nearly 300 people have entered including a number of participants walking for their chosen charity or good cause. The Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor Doris MacKnight, has three chosen charities for 2017 which the Active Sunderland BIG Walk is pleased to support:
- The Alzheimer’s Society in Sunderland
- Castletown Scouts Group
- The Phoenix Unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital
