Nigeria’s bishops called for prayers for the safety and release of those most likely kidnapped on Sunday in Owerri, the capital of Imo State in Nigeria.

Bishop Musa Shikwi was “kidnapped on the evening of Sunday 27 December 2020.” Notified the Secretary General of the Nigeria Bishops Conference.

Bishop of Chikwi is the Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Owerri, Nigeria.

“So far, there has been no contact from the kidnappers,” Father Zakaria Nyantiso Samjumi said in a press release.

“The Sun” newspaper, quoting eyewitnesses, reported that Anba Chikoy “was kidnapped with his driver in his official car,” and they added that the bishop’s car “returned later and took the passengers to an unknown location.”

According to the newspaper, the anti-kidnapping unit has launched an investigation into the case.
